In celebration of bikes, beer, half-formed ideas, vanishing points, views, altitudes, and a future that’s unpredictable, 327 Words presents the Halfway There (Living on a Prayer): Vista Time Trial, an alleycat-style bike race around much of Seattle with checkpoints and performance detraction options at some of the most eye-popping lookouts in town beginning at 2020 Cycle 21st and Union in Seattle, WA on March 30, 2013 at 3:27 sharp, signups commencing around 2:30 or so.
Participants will have the opportunity to feast their eyes on many of Seattle’s most iconic views, all the while pedaling up and down some of our fair city’s finest hills and least likely bike paths and/or routes.
As riders spin along, they might suppose that, for a long time, they’d entertained the idea of living to be 112 years old. That would mean, at age fifty-six, they’d reached the halfway point.
And then they might wonder, “Half awake? Or half-asleep?”
And here’s a few more queries: What does it mean to take the long view? And how do we remember to observe the vista?
All this and more, all on two wheels, rain or shine, no crying or fatal crashes allowed. Seven dollar suggested donation, free shot glasses (for Jagermeister, which has 56 herbs and spices!) for the first 56 riders.
Racers, competing in a group time-trial format, will head to the top of various viewpoints to look around and figure out what’s next.
Prizes—cash and bike schwag—will be awarded for fastest times, men’s and ladies’ divisions, as well as runner-up positions, including, of course, DFL.
Prize sponsors and friends currently on tap include: Jagermeister, Brooks Saddles, Bill's Off-Broadway, Haulin’ Colin Trailers, 2020 Cycle, Defeet, Swrve Cycling, Vapolution Vaporizers, SKS Germany,Walz Caps, Microcosm Publishing, BaileyWorks, Peddlar Brewery, Swift Industries, Bombus Bikes, T Leatherworks, Alchemy Goods, with more to come! Don’t pass up your chance to ride dangerously through traffic, expose your eyes to all sorts of visual delicacies, and be glad when it’s over.
Friends, relations, and those too lazy to ride, but not to drink are invited to show up at Bill’s Off-Broadway after about 6:30 to keep the cycle going.
